Movie Scene PreVis Recreation (WIP)

Pre Visualization Project of Movie Scene Utilizing Unreal Engine

Virtual Production Project

This WIP project is the culmination of the virtual production tools and workflows I learned from Byron Qiao and Tu Uthaisri in my virtual production apprenticeship with the Handy Foundation. This project is the first venture into combining my previous knowledge of game engines and scripting with the tools used for filmmaking and pre visualization within Unreal Engine.

Here are some of the movie scenes I initially included in a vision board before settling on the Divergent Scene, which I thought was the most technically impressive and interesting.

I began the project with the goal of wanting to make use of the Unreal Engine tools to recreate a scene within a movie that made use of mirrors in an interesting way. I wanted to use mirrors as I believe the visual effect created by mirror halls is visually very interesting and wanted to better understand alternate ways of reproducing it. I was curious in the variances between relying on reflective materials and Unreal Engine’s Lumen technology for lighting effects and manually recreating and reanimating different assets within a scene. I am sure both have their time and place for being more effective and less costly so i wanted to use this project as a chance to really learn in detail how to navigate creating a scene like this and troubleshooting the unique problems that would be encountered.
